Azim Looker

Azim LookerColin Azim Looker is an independent researcher, artist, associate of the Beshara School, and a member of a number of Sufi Orders and other spiritual groups. He has lived in Turkey for the last seven years and visited for the last forty years.
He lives in Istanbul and was and is, a "co-student of the Real" with Bulent Rauf, with multiple connections with The Beshara School, working to establish the work of the Beshara School in Turkey (Beshara Turkiye), initiate of several Sufi Orders (Bektashi, Mevlevi, Halveti-Jerrahi and others for 35 years) Gurdjieff Society, Buddhist Society. Past connections with the Nuriyye-Melamiye and an aquaintance of Mehmet Selim Ozic Baba and Yannis Toussulis Ph.D author of "Sufism and the Way of Blame".
Main interests are in furthering exploration of the ideas of Bulent Rauf, founder of the Beshara School of Intensive Esoteric Education (Beshara.org, and bulentrauf.org) and the practical education the school offers, and our friends the real contemporary need to be met (with special application to Turkey) and the response it requires from us in practical terms, in liaison with friends in many other groups especially in the Gurdjieff - Bennett Work, Sufism, and the (Eastern, Frerés D'Orient, Byzantine) Rose Cross. Not an intellectual, but an artist, (Painter) and intuitive, demonstrating forms of meditation especially 'pure awareness', Zazen, and 'Mindfulness Meditation'.
His book "Beyond Sufism - Travels and Essays" has exceptional four or five star reviews and sales. It is a series of travels and essays in modern Sufism and beyond. These essays cover many subjects; modern Sufi spirituality, experiences in painting and colour, a history of the Bektashi Sufi Order, travels in Albania with the Head of the World Bektashi Sufi Community, journeys in Turkey and other lands, an essay introducing the essence of Sufism as far as he can understand and communicate it, a description of the beginning of the reading of "The Greatest Sheikh", Sheikh Al-Akbar, Muyhiddin Ibn 'Arabi's, "Fusus al-Hikam" on Buyukada, Istanbul, by Metin Bobaroglu and his circle of friends.
Other essays concern Al Khidr/ Hizir (Turkish), "The Green Man" of legend who guides souls on the direct "Way of the Private Face" to God, immortal helper who conversed with Moses in the Qur'an...keeper of the 'Ilm-i-Ladunni, "The Private Knowledge", "Gods Private Knowledge of Himself", outside all prophetic exegesis, knowledge through our very Being, and many other subjects.

Azim Looker and Ba'itha Bahar Aykaç represent The Beshara School in Turkey and facilitate The Beshara short course "Discovering Unity" at Park Art Istanbul gallery, which is also a Beshara open drop-in centre.
